King of the Delta Blues Singers is a compilation album by American blues musician Robert Johnson, released in 1961 on Columbia Records. It is considered one of the greatest and most influential blues releases ever. In 2003, the album was ranked number 27 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The Complete Recordings is a compilation album by American blues musician Robert Johnson, released August 28, 1990 on Columbia Records. The album's recordings were recorded in two sessions in Dallas and San Antonio, Texas for the American Record Company (ARC) during 1936 and 1937. Most of the songs were first released on 78rpm records in 1937. The Complete Recordings contains every recording Johnson is known to have made, with the exception of an alternate take of "Travelling Riverside Blues".

Reading about the power inherent in Robert Johnson's music is one thing, but actually experiencing it is another matter entirely.

I own both of the 'King Of The Delta Blues Singers' albums, and prefer Vol. 2 mainly for "Dust My Broom. Early in 2010, it was announced that Todd Rundgren would be releasing a CD of Robert Johnson covers (Todd Rundgren's Johnson-get it before it goes out of print).

King of the Delta Blues Singers, Vol. II is a compilation album by American blues musician Robert Johnson, released in 1970 on Columbia Records. In 2003, the album was ranked number 424 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Michael Goodwin's Most Recent Stories. King Of The Delta Blues Singers (Volume 2). A Heavy Trip Inside Mick Jagger’s Head. Columbia admits to having altered their earlier blues reissues (including the first Robert Johnson album, and the four original Bessie Smith albums) by adding electronic echo to the original masters to give them that hi-fi sound. This practice has been discontinued, and if you compare matching tracks on the old Bessie Smith albums and the new ones you’ll notice that the new albums sound immeasurably liver, clearer and finer. The new Robert Johnson album, too, is a delight fidelity-wise.

Robert Johnson chronology. King of the Delta Blues Singers (1961). King of the Delta Blues Singers, Vol. II (1970). The Complete Recordings (1990). Columbia decided it was time to issue another Johnson album, scoured the vaults again and came up with nine additional Vocalion masters, three unreleased alternate takes and two unreleased tracks (a matrix was made for Drunken Hearted Man in 1937 but it seems it was never released). Likely finding no further acceptable recordings, to bring the number of tracks to the same sixteen as on Volume I, "Ramblin' On My Mind" and "Preachin' Blues" from the earlier LP were issued again. Although not quite as popular or influential as its predecessor, it includes recordings.

Robert Johnson's landmark recordings from 1936/37 have influenced a ton of musicians from later generations, including Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Eric Clapton to name but a few. However, Johnson's records hardly sold during his lifetime and he mostly played at street corners and juke joints. It took until the reissue of his recordings in 1961 on the LP King Of The Delta Blues Singers that his work reached a much broader audience
