The Drovers' 1991 first studio album, World of Monsters, featured Keane on flute, vocals and button accordion, Jackie Moran drums, Dave Callahan lead vocals and bass and Mike Kirkpatrick guitar. Book of Songs" brought the Drovers their first commercial radio exposure on WXRT in Chicago The Drovers were awarded Illinois Entertainer's Best Unsigned Band award in 1991. While never officially dissolving, the Drovers eventually stopped performing and Callahan formed the Stroby Alliance with former Drover Tim Larson (ww. heowneroperators.
A drovers' road, drove or droveway is a route for droving livestock on foot from one place to another, such as to market or between summer and winter pasture (see transhumance). Many drovers' roads were ancient routes of unknown age; others are known to date back to medieval or more recent times. Drovers' roads are often wider than other roads, able to accommodate large herds or flocks
The Bag shows the Drovers at their heaviest, displaying a ferocity that's missing from World of Monsters. Maybe this is why they opted to record parts of the album with the notoriously edgy Chicago producer Steve Albini. This album is an excellent showcase of their sense of adventure and their imagination. 4 people found this helpful. The Drovers were well above average in their previous incarnation as a rock-n-reel band, but they are PHENOMENAL as a psychedelic band. This record explores, and I'd even say 'invents', a completely different genre from the straightforward rock-n-reel of "World of Monsters". It should be filed nowhere near Celtic music at all, but rather among the all-time greats of warm, dreamy psychedlia like Brian Eno's "Another Green World" and Luna's "Bewitched".
