Cowpers / Sweep The Leg Johnny - Cowpers / Sweep The Leg Johnny mp3 album

This was a great band from Chicago. This was taped by me, Gary Brown at Michigan Fest 2002, since most likely, you couldn't be there.

No More Kings got much of their exposure from their 2007 music video "Sweep the Leg", which is presented as a continuation of the 1984 film The Karate Ki. .

Sweep the Leg Johnny was an American experimental rock band formed in 1996. The name is a reference to a line in the film The Karate Kid. Alto saxophonist and vocalist Steve Sostak and guitarist Chris Daly met while attending the University of Notre Dame, where they played together in Check Engine between 1993 and 1994. The two relocated to Chicago after graduating, where they recruited drummer Scott Anna and bass guitarist Matt Alicea, forming Sweep the Leg Johnny.

Sweep the Leg Johnny were fronted by saxophonist and vocalist Steve Sostak, who decided to form the band after meeting Chris Daly at university in Notre Dame. Steve tried out many different instruments to accompany Chris's guitar, eventually settling reluctantly on the saxophone.

Following this, Matt Alicea left and was replaced by John Brady, formerly of Spanakorzo and Swing Kids. The band then signed to Southern Records for their second LP "Tomorrow We Will Run Faster", released.

Hailing from the "emo" haven of Chicago, Sweep The Leg Johnny has a sound that never gets old or repetetive. The currents and melodies of the songs change enough to keep things interesting yet still maintaining focus and theme. Imagine taking the creative beauty of Braid, making the melodies a little more quirky and odd, using slightly rougher vocals, more abstract lyrics, and then throwing in a wild dynamic saxophone. This is the fusion that is STLJ- and it is forceful and intense
